HEPOK - history
HEPOK Winery Ljubuski is the oldest winery in Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded during Austro-Hungarian empire in 1886.
The wines produced in Herzegovina were consumed on European courts for a while.
During 1972. winery in Ljubuski became a member of agricultural holding HEPOK, where it was the wine making member, well known for Blatina and Žilavka. In mid 70's holding decided to plant Zilavka variety in areas, other than Ljubuški, so HEPOK Ljubuški stayed specialized for red wine production, having extraordinary soil and climate conditions.
HEPOK - today
HEPOK Ljubuski managed to establish itself as a producer of well known brands, recognized by the international market.
More than century of wine making tradition has been reinvented by international wine-making group Vino-Alpe-Adria, now managing wine production in Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and expanding. Vino-Alpe-Adria implements a modern approach to wine making, trying to incorporate the advantages of Herzegovina climate and soil, producing modern and quality wines, in accordance to the highest international (DIN) standards.
Significant investment modernized HEPOK production capabilities and cellar, guaranties supreme quality product which will be distributed by Vino-Alpe-Adria channels to international markets.
Special approach to wine making will include small grape producers from the region, who will have long term cooperation including various help (benefits, education, protection, technology, etc.), with a single aim - TO RAISE THE QUALITY OF GRAPES.
HEPOK - future
Traditional values and internationally recognized varieties Zilavka and Blatina will be the production basis, but HEPOK will also produce European major varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franck, Zweigelt.
HEPOK managed to plant 70ha of these famous wine sorts in 2005. and the plan is to plant additional 150ha in following years.
HEPOK philosophy is, in addition to modern approach to technological process of wine production, application of contemporary knowledge in planting, cultivating and picking grapes, with an aim to produce quality rather than quantity, resulting with supreme and recognizable product, able to compete even in demanding international markets.
Ambitious plan, innovation in wine making introduced by modern, strong and capable managing team, lead by D. I. Sebastian Lerchl, will once again in near future, place Herzegovina on wine making maps, next to other know wine regions, and Herzegovina wines will once again act as ambassadors.
